Brian Kelly tells LSU team not to settle after clinching West

Before the season started, LSU was picked to finish fifth in the SEC West and possibly not make a bowl game. Fast forward a few months, and the Tigers are 8-2 with two regular season games remaining and have already clinched a spot in the SEC Championship game against Georgia.

There are certainly some out there that would be complacent with exceeding expectations in Year 1 with Brian Kelly. That isn’t the mentality that could land LSU in the college football playoffs, though.

If the Tigers win out, they have a chance of making the college football playoffs. So, what has Kelly been preaching to his players as the season winds down?

“That’s kind of a piece of who we are,” Kelly said. “We focus on a process more so than an outcome. It’s been a consistent way of how we do things on a day-to-day basis. We focus much more on the little things, our habits, how we think, what we do on a day-to-day basis, much more than outcomes, championships, things of that nature.

“It’s just kind of been business as usual for us this week. Our focus has strictly been on our preparation and preparing for UAB.”

You can’t overlook a team like UAB because it is known for crushing the dreams of teams that underestimate it. LSU will take on the Blazers on Saturday night at 8 p.m. CT.
