Brazil vs. Argentina score: Live updates as Lionel Messi and company face rivals in World Cup qualifying

Brazil vs Argentina #BrazilvsArgentina

The international break is coming to end with one of the most hotly anticipated matchups of the month — Brazil vs. Argentina. The South American giants and major rivals face off in World Cup qualifying but enter the game under different circumstances. Argentina sit atop the ten-team standings after four wins out of five while Brazil are five points behind them in fifth place after just two wins. The one thing both sides have in common? They are both coming off losses and will no doubt be eager to correct course.

The hosts are welcoming the world champions under less-than-ideal circumstances. Neymar, Richarlison, Casemiro and Ederson were unable to join the team with different injuries, and Vinicius Junior now faces a spell on the sidelines after picking up a thigh injury on Thursday. Brazil are also on a three game winless run and have lost two in a row for the first time since the 2014 World Cup.

Argentina, meanwhile, came into this international break flying high but their perfect run was snapped in a 2-0 loss to Uruguay on Thursday. The aim for a full-strength squad that includes Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez will be to prove that result was a one-off but face an uphill battle of sorts — Brazil have never lost a World Cup qualifier at home.
