Bradley Simmonds, Men’s Health Cover Model, Shares His 6-Move, Full-Body Dumbbell Workout

During the debut weekend of MH Weekenders — our virtual festival of health, fitness and nutrition taking place every weekend throughout January (9-31) — elite PT Bradley Simmonds took Men’s Health readers through one of his go-to workouts: a short, sharp and full-body dumbbell workout that’s ideal to grind through at home.

As Simmonds explains in the video above, you’ll be working across six different exercises for four total rounds, working each exercise for 40 seconds and resting for 20. You’ll smoke your legs, chest, shoulders, core and arms in the session, which was streamed exclusively to our YouTube and Eventbrite subscribers. Ready to get a sweat on? Here’s the gameplan:

40 Seconds On, 20 Seconds Off, For 4 Total Rounds: Dumbbell Squats

  • Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart holding a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height
  • Lower your body into a deep squat, until your thighs are parallel to the ground.
  • Drive your heels into the floor to push yourself back up to the start position.
  • Reverse Lunges

  • Bracing your core muscles and standing straight with a dumbbell in each hand, take a big step backwards with your left foot
  • Bend your right knee until it’s at 90°, lowering your left knee to ‘kiss’ the floor
  • Push back up to revrese the movement. That’s one rep
  • Bicep Curl into Shoulder Press

  • Stand holding two dumbbells at your sides, palms facing forwards. Move only your forearms to curl the weights up to your shoulders.
  • Press the weights up above your head until your arms are fully extended
  • Return under control to the start position.
  • MH Tip: Avoid the urge to arch your back or ‘swing’ the dumbbells. If you can’t lift the weight without leaning back, swap to lighter dumbbells.

    Side Lunge into Press

  • Stand with your legs under your hips and hold a dumbbell in your right hand.
  • Step your right leg out to the side and lower your body as you bend your knee, keeping your left leg straight.
  • Drive yourself back up to starting position
  • Extend through your elbow to lift the dumbbell directly above you. Lower it back down to your shoulder and repeat.
  • Mountain Climbers

  • Set up on the floor as though in a sprinter’s blocks, with one foot positioned beneath your waist and one back, with your leg straight.
  • Explosively swap foot positions.
  • Repeat for the prescribed reps.
  • Devil’s Press

  • Drop down into a press-up position holding your dumbbells, and perform a burpee
  • As you begin to stand back up, use the momentum to swing the weights between your legs, then directly overhead
  • Lower under control and repeat
