Boxer Lee Noble dies at the age of 33 following a long battle with cancer as Eddie Hearn leads the tributes to the former super-middleweight

  • Boxer Lee Noble has died at the age of 33 after a long battle with cancer.

    It was confirmed that Noble sadly passed away this morning surrounded by his family and friends.

    Noble was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2014 and confirmed he had terminal brain cancer two years ago.

    The Barnsley-born super-middleweight fought professionally 47 times, winning 20 of them, with three knockouts. 

    Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has paid a touching tribute to Noble on social media.

    ‘Very saddened to hear of the passing of Lee Noble,’ Hearn wrote.

    ‘Lee fought his illness so bravely for many years and my thoughts and everyone at Matchroom are with him and his family. At peace now.’

    Noble received an honorary WBC belt in 2019 to recognise his ‘brave and courageous’ fight. 

    A letter from WBC president Mauricio Sulaimain, sent alongside the belt, added: ‘We would like to acknowledge all you have done in your boxing career and also for your great and admirable passion for life.’

    It was revealed in August of last year that Noble would no longer be receiving treatment for his illness. 

    Noble’s last win in the ring came in 2014, his fifth in a row, and he fought the likes of Billy Joe Saunders, Martin Murray and John Ryder in his career. 

    A number of other people have also come forward to pay their respects to Noble. 

    The account of promoter Kalle and Nisse Sauerland tweeted: ‘Rest in peace Lee Noble. Fought on a show of ours back in 2011, good boxer and nice guy. RIP.’

    Ellie Scotney wrote: ‘Heartbreaking news to wake up to the passing of Lee Noble, fought until the final bell. Rest in perfect peace Champ.’

    Northern Irish boxer Conrad Cummings posted: ‘Saddened to hear about the death of boxer Lee Noble, only 33 years young also. So sad. RIP champ.’

    Trainer Dave Coldwell said: ‘Such sad news to hear of the passing of Lee Noble. RIP Lee.’
