Former Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman is coming back to the Big 12 after spending two seasons as a backup on College Football Playoff teams at Michigan.
Bowman announced Monday he’s committed to Oklahoma State, against whom he had one of his best career games as a true freshman in 2018. Texas Tech sprang a 41-17 upset at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater with Bowman passing for 397 yards and two touchdowns in the first Big 12 game of his career.
The Grapevine product spent the 2018 through 2020 seasons with the Red Raiders, passing for 5,260 yards and 33 touchdowns with 17 interceptions.
Next season will be the sixth in college football for Bowman. He redshirted in 2019 when he played in only three games after suffering a broken collarbone and has the Covid-bonus year available for 2023. At Michigan, he played in three games in 2021 and four games this season, combining for 69 passing yards and a touchdown.
Defensive tackle Philip Blidi, pictured, and cornerback Kobee Minor, both top backups for Texas Tech this season, have committed to Indiana as transfers.
Blidi, Minor pick Indiana
Defensive tackle Philip Blidi and cornerback Kobee Minor, both top backups for Texas Tech this season, have committed to Indiana as transfers.
Blidi and Minor played in 12 games apiece this season, but both players’ paths to more playing time were blocked by the return of veteran Tech starters for 2023: Defensive tackles Jaylon Hutchings and Tony Bradford and cornerbacks Malik Dunlap and Rayshad Williams, all of whom opted to use their Covid-bonus year next season.
Blidi played in 35 games for the Red Raiders, beginning in his true freshman season of 2020. This season he was credited with 18 tackles, including 4 1/2 tackles for loss and two sacks, all career highs.
Blidi will reunite with Indiana defensive line coach Paul Randolph, who was the Red Raiders’ defensive line coach from 2019-21.
Minor played in 23 games for the Red Raiders, also beginning in 2020, when he redshirted. This season, he was credited with 12 tackles and two pass breakups. Minor jointly announced his commitment to the Hoosiers on Monday along with his brother Darryl Minor, a linebacker who redshirted this season at Texas-El Paso.

Juco kicker pledges
Gabe Showalter, an NJCAA second-team all-America kicker this season for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, announced Sunday he’s committed to Texas Tech. He’s expected to join the Red Raiders as a walk-on.
Showalter, as a 5-foot-10, 175-pound freshman from St. Martin, Mississippi, made 8 of 10 field goals this season with a long of 41 yards. He was good on 42 of 43 extra points. He also punted 37 times for an average of 38.2 yards, a long of 57 yards and six punts inside the opponent 20-yard line.
Tech is losing senior Trey Wolff, the only kicker in program history who made 20 or more field goals in separate seasons. Wolff went 20 for 22 in 2019 and 21 for 25 this year.
The Red Raiders return Gino Garcia, who made 32 of 46 field goals in three years at Houston Baptist (now Houston Christian), but lost the competition with Wolff to be the Red Raiders’ kicker this season.
