Boston Marathon breaks fundraising record for non-profit organizations, BAA says

The 127th Boston Marathon raised $40.2 million for over 200 non-profit organizations, according to the Boston Athletic Association (BAA).

The total money raised this year breaks the previous record of $38.7 million set in 2019, the association said. The association’s charity program combined with the John Hancock Non-Profit Program, has raised $500.2 million since the start of the charity in 1989.

“Philanthropic and fundraising efforts surrounding this year’s Boston Marathon hit record highs in 2023, a testament to the hard work and dedication of all participants running for greater causes,” said Nicole Juri, BAA’s director of development. “More than 200 charities and non-profit organizations will benefit thanks to the efforts of our fundraising participants.”

Participants of the Boston Marathon race donated as well. This year, 2,537 participants across 78 countries of the race donated to non-profits.
