Boston College Football: Live updates vs. Notre Dame

It doesn’t get much better than the Holy War and Red Bandanna game packed into one.

Boston College looks to improve to 6-3 on the season when it hosts rival No. 2 Notre Dame at Alumni Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The game will be broadcast nationally on ABC. Sean McDonough, Todd Blackledge, Todd McShay and Molly McGrath have the call of the game. Coverage on the Boston College Learfield IMG Sports Network begins at 3 p.m. with Jon Meterparel, Pete Cronan and Scott Mutryn. Fans can listen to the game locally on WEEI 93.7 FM, nationally on TuneIn and on Sirius channel 132, XM channel 194 and online via SiriusXM channel 956.

Boston College and Notre Dame both enter Saturday fresh off wins. The Eagles defeated Syracuse at the Carrier Dome last weekend, while the Fighting Irish upset No. 1 Clemson at home.

Third Quarter

-TOUCHDOWN EAGLES: David Bailey finds the end zone from three yards out on third-and-one. Notre Dame 38, Boston College 23. There’s still plenty of game left. A stop on Notre Dame’s next drive could go a long way in getting back into this one.

Second Quarter

-Boston College gives it right back after the Notre Dame fumble. Alec Lindstrom fires a snap past Phil Jurkovec, who was not expecting one, and the Fighting Irish recover. Costly miscommunication.

-The Eagles settle for a field goal after their drive stalls in the red zone. Aaron Boumerhi connects from 35 yards out for his third make of the game Notre Dame 24, Boston College 16. 3:12 left in the first half.

-Boston College is in business and in the red zone following a 40-yard completion by Phil Jurkovec to Jaelen Gill.

-Notre Dame scores again. Ian Book to Ben Skowronek for the second time, this one from 13 yards out. Notre Dame 24, Boston College 13. 5:43 remaining in the first half.

-Boston College goes three and out and then gets whistled for kick-catch interference on the punt.

-Touchdown Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish take advantage of the overturned onside kick and march 75 yards in six plays to jump back out in front. Notre Dame 17, Boston College 13 with 10:24 left in the first half.

-The onside kick is coming back. Upon replay review, the officials add an illegal block penalty on Boston College.

-Boston College dials up an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff and the Eagles recover at the Notre Dame 40.

-Phil Jurkovec and CJ Lewis cannot connect on third down from the Notre Dame 14. Aaron Boumerhi boots his second field goal of the game to put Boston College back out in front, 13-10.

-Phil Jurkovec or Ben Roethlisberger? Jurkovec escapes pressure on third down to hit Jaelen Gill for a 34-yard gain.

First Quarter

-END OF 1: Boston College 10, Notre Dame 10. The Eagles face second-and-15 from their 37 to begin the second quarter.

-Notre Dame strikes on its ensuing drive, as Ian Book hits Ben Skowronek for a 10-yard touchdown. Boston College 10, No. 2 Notre Dame 10.

-Boston College goes three and out after the Notre Dame turnover and settles for a 41-yard Aaron Boumerhi field goal. Boston College 10, No. 2 Notre Dame 3.

-TURNOVER: Notre Dame has trouble on a read-option and Brandon Barlow pounces on the fumble to give Boston College the ball deep in Notre Dame territory.

-TOUCHDOWN Eagles: Phil Jurkovec lobs it up to Zay Flowers and he comes down with it for an acrobatic touchdown grab. This one is going to stand. Boston College 7, Notre Dame 3

-Bad news: Phil Jurkovec’s touchdown pass to Travis Levy is overturned upon review. Good news: Boston College has a fresh set of downs thanks to a holding penalty on Notre Dame.

-Phil Jurkovec finds Jehlani Galloway on third-and-eight for a key conversion. 1st & Goal Boston College.

-Boston College is down to the Notre Dame 23 following a 22-yard scamper by Travis Levy.

-Jurkovec finds Lewis wide open underneath for a 20-yard gain one play later, but Lewis is down on the Notre Dame sideline with what looks like a lower leg injury.

-Phil Jurkovec’s first pass of the afternoon is a 15-yard strike to Zay Flowers.

-Boston College’s defense comes up with a crucial stop. Notre Dame gets called for offensive pass interference on third-and-goal, forcing the Fighting Irish to settle for a 23-yard field goal. No. 2 Notre Dame leads 3-0 at the 9:39 mark of the first quarter.

-Deon Jones gets whistled for holding on a third-and-six from Boston College’s 13. 1st & Goal for Notre Dame now.

-Boston College won the coin toss and deferred to second half. Notre Dame is into Boston College territory five plays into its first drive of the game.
