The Boston Celtics have traded veteran big man Tristan Thompson to the Sacramento Kings in a three-team trade, who will send point guard Delon Wright to the Atlanta Hawks. In turn, Atlanta sends point guard Kris Dunn to Boston in a three-team deal, per ESPN Insider Adrian Wojnarowski. Thompson was signed by the Celtics ahead of the 2020-21 NBA season to provide veteran leadership and to serve as a defensive anchor in the paint.
The Canadian center saw his game slip on both ends of the court after the extended layover his previous team had because of the pandemic, injury and COVID however in a season that just did not gel for him. Boston is also receiving a Hawks 2023 second-round pick to complete the deal, and Atlanta has included center Bruno Fernando in the trade.
Dunn, a Providence College product, was drafted fifth overall in the 2016 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
