The Boston Celtics have reportedly dealt recently acquired big man Moses Brown to the Dallas Mavericks in their trade for veteran shooting guard Josh Richardson according to an official release by the team.
Initially reported as Richardson being taken entirely into the remainder of the Gordon Hayward traded player exception, the move saves the Celtics $1.2 million in salary while helping Dallas shore up their frontcourt rotation. Per Yahoo Sports’ Keith Smith, there “was a bit of a tug-of-war” between the two teams with the Celtics hoping to ” to send back a bit more guaranteed salary” in the deal.
There may well be more moves to come with a number of other trade and free-agent targets circulating in the Celtics media sphere in the last 24 hours.
Per a source: There was a bit of a tug-of-war between Boston and Dallas. Boston wanted to send back a bit more guaranteed salary for Richard. Dallas initially didn’t want any. Teams landed in the middle with a minimal amount of guaranteed salary for Moses Brown heading to Dallas.

New team president Brad Stevens has shown if nothing else a strong interest in shaking things up after a moribund 2020-21 NBA season.
