Boston Celtics’ Carsen Edwards dunks on Houston Rockets stars James Harden, Russell Westbrook (video)

Boston Celtics guard Carsen Edwards played limited minutes his rookie season and struggled at times to find the jumper that helped make him Boston’s second-round selection in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Coming out of the break, however, Edwards has received positive reviews from teammates and has shown some flashes of a developing game that could earn him more minutes down the road. His passing has looked better since scrimmages began in Orlando (an admittedly minuscule sample size), and his finishing around the rim has ticked up as well.

On Tuesday, playing extended minutes in Boston’s scrimmage loss to the Houston Rockets, Edwards showed another previously unseen part of his game: His bounce. Midway through the third quarter, the 6′0 guard charged down the lane from the right side, elevated and pounded home a loud dunk over James Harden as Russell Westbrook swatted at the ball from behind.

“Whoa!” NBC Sports Boston play-by-play man Mike Gorman exclaimed, as color commentator Brian Scalabrine added, “Carsen Edwards with the thunder.”

The Celtics lost 117-103, but Edwards dropped 19 points on 8-for-18 shooting in 32 minutes against Houston’s real rotation.
