Börje Salming and Darryl Sittler break down crying in HHOF introductions on Leafs’ ice
Sittler #Sittler
It is Hockey Hall of Fame night in Tonight, but the celebrations were even more special for former Maple Leafs defenseman Börje Salming, who is battling with ALS.
At centre ice ahead of the matchup between the Leafs and the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins, Salming received a moving standing ovation from the crowd once he was introduced, that got Darryl Sittler and some other players in tears as the crowd applauded the icon.
Salming raised both arms in the air, with the help of Sittler, to salute the crowd.
This is heartbreaking but so moving to watch.
For Swedish defenseman Rasmus Sandin, Salming was an idol of his growing up. We just feel the Maple Leafs really want to go out there and win this one, not only for the HHOF inductees this year, but especially for Salming, who is just an inspiration.
Keep on fighting, Börje !
