Bonds receives calls for boycott following photos of bearded nonbinary model in bikini

Bonds, an Australian underwear brand, has chosen a bearded, nonbinary model named “Mikey” who uses they/them pronouns to display its latest bikini and is now receiving blowback for its Genderfree collection.

The model has been seen in the brand’s Retro Rib Seamless Tonal Hi Bikini while sporting a beard, a hairy chest, and a bulge in the bikini bottom. The bikini is a part of the clothing manufacturer’s collection to promote its Pride campaign, which includes transgender models and drag queens, as well as gay, bisexual, and pansexual models.

“Times are changing and so is our underwear,” the product description of the bikini reads on its website. “Made for fierce women everywhere, our Retro Rib™ Seamless Hi Bikini is part of our Retro Rib™ Seamless range that gives you the confidence to roar. You’ll have comfort and confidence to burn in this gorgeous women’s retro bikini.”

Mikey is featured in numerous outfits in the Genderfree section of the Bonds website. The model is seen promoting a “chesty” shirt and a crop bra with a low scoop neckline

Last week, Bonds promoted a social media post of drag queens and transgender and gay models road-tripping in the Rainbow Valley Conservation Reserve in Australia while in their underwear. The group stood by white van and smiled in Bonds underwear while posing with colorful fans and feather boas in front of a sunset.

“Excited to never buy bonds again,” one person wrote on Instagram.

“As the saying goes ‘go woke, go broke’ you can join the ranks of buzz light beer in your own demise,” another wrote.

“Such a shame that Bonds is pushing this agenda,” another Instagram user said. “Sorry but that’s the last time I buy bonds.”

Rip Curl, an Australian surfing sportswear retailer, recently parted ways with professional surfer Bethany Hamilton after she denounced the company promoting transgender surfer Sasha Jane Lowerson. Hamilton said she decided to end the partnership due to her beliefs against biological men participating in women’s sports and her disagreement with the brand’s promotion of gender ideology.
