Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros left Thursday night’s game against the Edmonton Elks with an apparent injury.
The Blue Bombers announced he wouldn’t return for the remainder of the contest due to an unspecified ailment. Collaros could be seen standing on the sideline with teammates in street clothes in the second half.
The league’s reigning Most Outstanding Player left the contest after completing two of five pass attempts for six yards and one interception.
Collaros sustained the injury when he took a hit from Elks defensive lineman Kony Ealy while attempting a pass that was intercepted by defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy and returned for a touchdown.
After laying on the ground for several minutes, Collaros managed to walk off the field under his own power and headed to the locker room. Dru Brown replaced Collaros under center for the Blue Bombers’ next series.
The Cincinnati product entered Thursday’s matchup leading the league with 2,292 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and a 118.4 passer rating in eight games. Collaros has led Winnipeg to Grey Cup appearances in each of the past three seasons.
