In the final minutes of Wednesday night’s play-in tournament game, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James was hit in the face by Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green during a layup attempt. The former MVP remained down on the court for a long while as officials reviewed whether a flagrant foul had been committed.
The verdict from the referees was that no flagrant call was necessary — this was just a normal foul.
So, was James being overly dramatic? Depends on whom you ask.
Portland Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum is firmly in the Team LeBron Flopped camp, and he joked about the play on Twitter.
“Actor of the year (laughing emoji),” McCollum tweeted while LeBron was writhing on the ground.
“Bron ain’t slick he wanted to rest for them free throws (laughing emoji),” he wrote in a separate tweet.
Shortly after the foul, James hit a deep, shot-clock-beating 3-pointer with a minute left that ended up being the game-winner. Once the game was over, James told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols that he couldn’t see very well post-foul.
“I was literally seeing three rims out there,” James said. “So I just shot at the middle one.”
McCollum wasn’t having any of it.
“I’m going to sleep. 3 rims,” he tweeted, using three laughing emojis for good measure.
Meanwhile, McCollum’s Blazers teammate Damian Lillard had a, um, different read on the situation.
“Draymond is a mf,” he wrote.
