Blackhawks wrestling faces local teams at Carlisle Christmas Classic, returns 1 champion

Susquenita wrestling got in some good practice for the Perry County Tournament after joining local teams at the Carlisle Christmas Classic.

The Blackhawks finished in tenth place overall, which was ahead of fellow Perry County team Newport who placed four spots behind.

In the opening round, Mason McLendon got things started at 114 with a 16-0 technical fall over a West York wrestler.

Kale Quigley also won his bout at 121 with a pin over a Gettysburg wrestler in the first period.

Joshua Kauffman also earned a pin at 160 against Bryan Schue from Newport in the first period as well.

Completing the first round, Louie Frisenda got Kevin Braddy from Carlisle on his back as well to add another pin at the 2:23 mark.

The success didn’t stop there for Susquenita’s McClendon, Quigley, and Frisenda, as Susquenita recorded three pins in the quarterfinals.

McLendon got his first pin of the day over a wrestler from Biglerville in just 51 seconds. Quigley followed suit, pinning Garrett Anderson from Red Land in the first period.

Frisenda pinned Josh Patrick, also from Red Land, after a hard-fought match that lasted 5:33.

McClendon was the only one to go past the semifinals, where Frisenda and Quigley would battle it out for third.

Quigley was defeated and ended his day in fourth place. Frisenda earned his third pin of the day which gave him the bronze as well as multiple points for his team.

In the semifinals, McClendon needed just 1:37 to pin his opponent from North Schuylkill making him the only Blackhawk to advance to the finals.

For the championship, McClendon faced Major Lewis from Trinity.

After a full three period match, McLendon’s first of the day, he earned a 3-0 decision which put him at No. 1 in his weight class.

The Blackhawks hosted the Perry County tournament on Dec. 20 wrestling against Newport and West Perry.

After the Halifax match the next day, the Blackhawks will attend the Mifflin Holiday Tournament.
