After last year’s run to the 4th round of the FA Cup, which delivered two mammoth games against then-Championship opposition Sheffield United, Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham once again travel to tier two opposition for a place in the fifth round of the cup.

Having scraped through a fierce Welsh border derby with Shrewsbury Town in round three, the Red Dragons have been rewarded with a trip to Blackburn Rovers, who currently sit 18th in the Championship, and haven’t won since 12th December.

Wrexham, now 2nd in League Two, will fancy themselves as giant killers at Ewood Park – as will pundits and fans. All eyes will be on the 19:30 KO on Monday night.

Blackburn vs Wrexham Prediction

As predicted giant killings go, this one feels fairly likely to come off. Blackburn are struggling and manager Jon Dahl Tomasson is under serious pressure.

With seven games without a win in the league, could a loss in the FA Cup to a side two divisions below seal his fate?

However, Blackburn are not a goal shy team. Their go-to man has been Sammie Szmodics, who is currently the second tier’s top marksman with 16 strikes.

Icelandic winger, Arnór Sigurðsson, who has signed permanently for the club in the January transfer window, has also chipped in with seven of his own.

Wrexham have their own attacking threats, most notably in the form of Paul Mullin and Elliot Lee – both are into double figures for the season.

But, it will be Wrexham’s defensive issues that may be their undoing. They have conceded five three times this season, albeit earlier on in the campaign, but 37 goals against in 27 games played is not pretty reading. These are the numbers Tomasson will be interested in, and he will no doubt exploit.

Blackburn themselves have let in a colossal 53 this season, so if this game is going to guarantee one thing, it’s probably going to be goals.

Blackburn, with home advantage and their Championship status, are clear favourites for victory here at 3/4 on Ladbrokes, while a draw comes in at 10/3 on Unibet. With exactly the same odds of 10/3 on Betfred, Wrexham are given a very decent chance at victory.

Blackburn vs Wrexham TipsWrexham to Win & Both Teams to Score

One of the best tips out there is an 11/2 (BetVictor) shout for Wrexham to win and both teams to score. At that price, whether as part of a build or a singular bet, it’s a great return.

Steven Fletcher to Score Anytime

If we dip into the goalscorers market, there’s plenty to choose from. Paul Mullin is 23/10 (LiveScoreBet) to score anytime and Sammie Szmodics is 13/10 (BetMGM).

Looking further across the board, the most attractive odds are for elder statesman, Steven Fletcher, who recently tucked away his first Wrexham hattrick, at 3/1 on Sky Bet.

Over 5.5 goals

Lastly, if you think this one has all the makings of a true FA Cup classic ding-dong battle, odds for Total Goals Over present very interesting reading. Over 5.5 goals would fetch 7/1 on Unibet. Stranger things have happened.
