Black Ops Cold War SBMM: Skill-Based Matchmaking Under Fire

SBMM #SBMM

Black Ops Cold War SBMM is under fire as #RemoveSBMM began trending Saturday in response to the Alpha’s skill-based matchmaking.

The Alpha for Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War arrived for PS4 on Friday. The Alpha gives players a short look at the new title’s multiplayer, maps, and more. Responses to different aspects of the Alpha have been mixed, but one thing is getting consistently panned — the skill-based matchmaking. Many Pro players have attacked Cold War’s SBMM this weekend.

Shortly after the launch of the Cold War Alpha, Seth “Scump” Huntsmen called its SBMM “nuts.”

Firstly, many players believe that SBMM has no place in casual playlists. Instead, players, like MN Attach of ROKKR think Call of Duty should offer a separate Ranked playlist that keeps players of similar skill together.

Secondly, many pro players feel that they are being punished for their skill level. FaZe Bloo of FaZe Clan has been making new accounts to avoid SBMM.

Other players, like the one responding to Bloo’s tweet, counter the anti-SBMM movement by claiming good players should be ready to adjust for better competition.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha is available Sept. 18 through Sept. 20.
