Laurence Bassini has made a shock £130m claim after revealing that he still hopes to complete a takeover of Birmingham City.
Bassini stated in June that he had exchanged contracts over a deal to buy Blues and expected to take ownership within days. It was claimed that the purchase would cost a total £35m, after the former Watford owner attempted to buy the club towards the end of 2021.
The 52-year-old outlined a June 30 deadline to get a deal over the line, which was missed. In a fiery interview with Jim White and Simon Jordan on talkSPORT, Bassini said on Friday that he was still interested in buying the club and outlined his aim to “win the league” at St. Andrew’s.

“I’ve sent £30m to the lawyer who has spoken to the directors and the owners of Birmingham City,” he said. “Right, I’m also going to put in, whether there bank balance or assets, another £70m-£80m to £100m – do you know why? I’m going to stay in football because I’m going to show all of you lot and I’m going to win the league.”
Bassini also said he hoped to complete a deal for the club within the “next week or two” and revealed plans to stay “as long as it takes”, as opposed to the three years he had previously outlined. Current owners Birmingham Sports Holdings Limited have overseen the club for six-and-a-half years and faced criticism from supporters, following relegation fights and St. Andrew’s having to undergo repairs.
