Josh Allen didn’t put the blame on Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass after he missed the game-tying field goal against the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs Sunday night.

The Bills quarterback knows that it was up to the entire team to get in a situation to win and that the missed field goal alone isn’t the reason for the loss.

“I wish it wouldn’t have been put in that situation. You win as a team, you lose as a team,” Allen said after the game. “One play doesn’t define a game, it doesn’t define a season. People are going to be out there saying that. We got to be there for him cause, again, we execute a couple plays prior and you’re probably seeing a different team right now.”

The Bills had the chance to tie things up late in the game, but Bass’ 44-yard field goal attempt was wide right. After the game, Allen comforted his kicker.

While he didn’t blame Bass for the loss, Allen didn’t sugarcoat the feeling of losing to the Chiefs once again and coming up short in the playoffs.

“It sucks. Losing sucks,” Allen said. “Losing to them, losing to anybody. At home, sucks.”

The loss to the Chiefs marks the third time in four seasons that the Bills’ season has been ended by Kansas City. Buffalo has been on the cusp of a Super Bowl appearance over the past few seasons, but the Bills haven’t been able to get over the hump. Having to face the Chiefs almost every year doesn’t help.

Sunday’s game was another classic between the Chiefs and Bills, which is a matchup that always seems to deliver. Allen threw for 186 yards and a touchdown while also picking up 72 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had 215 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Ultimately, Mahomes and the Chiefs managed to hold off the Bills and advance to another AFC Championship, and now Allen and the Bills have a long offseason ahead of them.
