Big time matchup as No. 2 Pebble Hills visits No. 1 Eastwood in District 1-6A opener

The El Paso Times’ High School Football Game of the Week is a big one as No. 2 Pebble Hills pays a visit to No. 1 Eastwood at 7 p.m. on Friday night.

Pebble Hills is 2-0 on the season after wins against Canutillo and Del Valle, and Eastwood is 1-1 with a loss against Southlake Carroll and a win against Las Cruces High from New Mexico. It will be the opener in District 1-6A for both teams.

Pebble Hills and Eastwood were the top teams in District 1-6A last season and both teams won bi-district playoff titles. The Spartans defeated the Troopers last season.

Eastwood is coached by Julio Lopez, who has led the program to three playoff victories in the past two years and Pebble Hills is coached by Mark Torres, the only head coach in program history and has guided the program to a district and bi-district title for the first time in school history.

Pebble Hills is led by a strong defense, which gave up six points in last week’s win against Del Valle and Eastwood has a powerful offense, which scored 55 points last week.
