Big Bash League: Melbourne Renegades take the bragging rights after thumping Melbourne Stars at MCG

A controversial Mankad attempt has come back to haunt Adam Zampa and his Melbourne Stars after the man he attempted to remove, Tom Rogers, went on a wicket-taking rampage as the Melbourne Renegades took the derby by 33 runs.
The Stars were well on top when a grumpy Zampa stirred the pot in the final over of their bowling innings, stopping mid-delivery to knock the bails off.
Rogers was out of his crease, but he was judged not out with Zampa’s arm going past the vertical.
Rogers laughed the incident off but came back for vengeance as the Stars set about chasing 142 for victory.
Joe Clark was undone by a pearler in Roger’s first over, losing his off stump to vicious swing.
The Stars’ start went from bad to worse as Beau Webster gave Rogers his second scalp, caught and bowled to leave the hosts in a tough spot at 2-11.
It turned into a full-blown collapse two deliveries later as the raging quick destroyed the man who shares his name, Tom Rogers, stumps.
When Will Sutherland captured the prized wicket of Marcus Stoinis, who nicked off on a half-hearted cut stroke, for six, the writing was on the wall.

Rogers added two more victims to his list to nab a five-wicket haul as the Stars buckled to 9-108.
The Renegades also made a shocking start with the willow as Sam Harper’s nightmare campaign continued with a first-ball duck after coming into the side to replace injured skipper Nic Maddison.
Kiwi superstar Martin Guptill took his time through 20 balls, building with Shaun Marsh, but his threatening innings was cut short by a Webster slow ball, bunting it straight back to the tall all-rounder for 32.
Finch’s return to the captaincy seemed to clog the runs as he was sent back after just two deliveries with a Trent Boult (2-23) review revealing a faint outside edge.

Marsh, hampered by injury, sluggishly moved into the 30s as Jono Wells pushed the gaps, but struggled to make an impact in the Power Surge.
It put all the pressure on Marsh, who fell trying to up the ante for 32, with the Renegades managing just 1-16 off their two Surge overs.
Wells didn’t last much longer either, caught in the deep attacking the long square boundary.
The backend of the innings saw a plethora of wickets before Zampa fired up the contest with a Mankad attempt.

Tom Rogers was well out of his ground, but the call was not out after replays showed the T20 whiz’s arm went past vertical before he stopped the delivery to hit the stumps.
The Renegades completed their set on 7-141.
