President Joe Biden said he plans to call Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) after the senator appeared to have difficulty speaking during a press conference.
McConnell on Wednesday seemed to experience his second health scare this summer, visibly freezing while taking questions in Kentucky. He appeared to have difficulty speaking and froze for about 30 seconds, eventually leading to aides leading him away.

Biden commented on the incident while delivering remarks on the federal response to Hurricane Idalia and the Maui wildfires, calling McConnell his friend and saying he would call him later.
“Mitch is a friend, as you know, not a joke,” Biden said. “We always, I know people don’t believe that’s the case, but we have disagreements politically, but he’s a good friend. And so, I’m going to try to get in touch with him later this afternoon. I don’t know enough to know.”

“Leader McConnell felt momentarily lightheaded and paused during his press conference today,” a McConnell aide told the Washington Examiner. They added that though McConnell “feels fine,” he will be “consulting a physician prior to his next event.”
McConnell was hospitalized earlier this year after falling, resulting in a minor rib fracture and concussion.
