President Joe Biden is finally planning to visit East Palestine, Ohio, after a train derailment.
On Wednesday, Mediaite reported on a memo it received from the White House announcing the trip to the town.
It explained Biden is slated to visit East Palestine on the one-year anniversary of the Norfolk Southern train derailment which led to the escape of toxic chemicals, causing health and environmental issues.
The White House memo laid out a series of actions the administration took in response to the wreck.
“In February, President Biden will travel to East Palestine, Ohio, to meet with residents impacted by the Norfolk Southern train derailment and assess the progress that his Administration has helped deliver in coordination with state and local leaders to protect the community and hold Norfolk Southern accountable,” it added.
The memo went on to note the Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency sent teams to East Palestine shortly after the derailment.
Biden’s trip comes as he has faced criticism for not visiting the town over the past year.
Roughly a year ago, he vowed he would go to the town “at some point.”

But, in September, he was asked why he had yet not visited the town.
“Well I haven’t had the occasion to go to East Palestine,” Biden answered.
He added, “There’s a lot going on here, and I just haven’t been able to break.”
