President Biden said he spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday morning and informed him that “additional assistance” was on its way to bolster the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as they work to fend of Hamas attacks.

Biden also informed Netanyahu that more assistance would be arriving in days to come, according to the readout.

“President Biden updated the Prime Minister on the intensive diplomatic engagement undertaken by the United States over the last 24 hours in support of Israel,” the White House readout stated.

“The President also conveyed that additional assistance for the Israeli Defense Forces is now on its way to Israel with more to follow over the coming days. The leaders also discussed ongoing efforts to ensure that no enemies of Israel believe they can or should seek advantage from the current” situation, the statement continued.

Biden expressed his sympathy with the Israeli people, according to the readout, and the two leaders committed to remaining in close contact in the coming days.

“The President again expressed deep sympathy for all those missing, wounded, and killed, and pledged his full support for the Government and people of Israel in the face of an unprecedented and appalling assault by Hamas terrorists,” the White House statement read. “They discussed the taking of hostages by Hamas terrorists, including entire families, the elderly, and young children.”

“The President emphasized that there is no justification whatsoever for terrorism, and all countries must stand united in the face of such brutal atrocities,” the statement read.

Since Hamas launched its massive attack against Israel on Saturday morning, the Biden administration has reiterated the position that the United States would back the state of Israel and back their right to defend themselves.

The brutal attack has resulted in hundreds of deaths and brutal kidnappings as Israeli civilians and soldiers are held hostage.
