Bernard Matthews Teases The Return Of The Almighty Turkey Twizzler

Bernard Matthews has teased the return of one of its most iconic products, with turkey fans speculating – nay, desperately hoping – that it could finally be the time that Turkey Twizzlers are back on dinner plates.

Sharing a 16-second clip captioned ‘Comeback of the Century’, the poultry purveyors wrote on Facebook: “Get ready for the comeback of the century you have all been waiting for!”

The video shows mock-ups of newspaper headlines such as ‘No More Fun at Dinner Times’ and ‘Man Tortured With Quinoa’, while a voiceover says: “A long time ago, one moment changed everything.

“But now, with the world more in need of joy than ever, the time has come.”

One person commented hopefully: “Turkey Twizzlers!?”

Another wrote: “Please tell me it’s Turkey Twizzlers.”

A third added: “If this ain’t turkey twizzlers you guys are biggest d**k tease of the century…!!!”

Bernard Matthews also posted a mysterious graphic of twizzly cutlery, telling people to get their ‘forks at the ready’ and asking: “Are you ready?”

You’ll no doubt remember the turkey-based treat from your childhood, when you’d either enjoy one for lunch at school or come home to find a tray of them in the oven.

Sadly, those halcyon days came to an end when chef Jamie Oliver campaigned for them to be removed from menus, amid concerns that they were too unhealthy and only contained 34 percent turkey meat.

David Joll, former managing director of Bernard Matthews, told CBBC Newsround at the time: “This seems to be getting silly and out of hand.

“The fat levels have already been reduced but even prior to that were less than that in an average sausage.

“Is Jamie really saying that sausages are off the menu too?”

Kirsty Rogers, who set the petition up, wrote: “I used to live off Turkey Twizzlers. Used to make sure my mum stocked up. But to think my kids will never experience the taste of them makes me want to get this petition as far as possible.

“So come on, you Twizzlers lovers – get signing.”

LADbible has reached out to 2 Sisters Food Group, which owns Bernard Matthews, for comment. Don’t worry though, we’ll be pecking your heads with an update as soon as we have one.
