John Bercow slams Boris Johnson for being ‘factually wrong’
John Bercow was invited onto Good Morning Britain ahead of the Queen’s Speech on Tuesday to discuss allegations that Boris Johnson misled Parliament. The former Speaker of the House of Commons told hosts Susanna Reid and Alastair Campbell he could give them “a number of examples” of the Prime Minister not telling the truth. Going through some of the statements the Prime Minister has made to MPs in the past, Mr Bercow blasted them as “demonstrably wrong.”
The former Speaker told the GMB hosts: “It is simply factually wrong for the Prime Minister to say that the economy under this conservative government has grown by 73 percent.
“The figure is in fact 20 percent, it is wrong and provably so say there are 400,000 fewer families living in poverty no one recognises that statistic.
“It is wrong for him to say the Government has reintroduced the nurses’ bursary that simply isn’t the case.
“It is demonstrably false.”

Mr Bercow’s remarks came as the former Conservative confirmed he has since moved to the “soft left” and voted for Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan.
“You have gone a fair way across the spectrum,” stated Mr Campbell.
The former Speaker replied: “Yes it is unusual but it is authentic.
“I have gone from being a rabid rightist to being a soft leftist.”

Ms Campbell asked the former Tory: “So how did you vote for example last week in the local elections?”
“How I voted for Sadiq Khan,” replied Mr Bercow.
“I thought he was far and away the best candidate to be Mayor of London.
“I think he absolutely deserves a second term.”

“So you no longer consider yourself to be a conservative at all?” pressed Mr Campbell.
“No!” was the response from the former Speaker.
It comes after Sadiq Khan defeated his Conservative rival for Mayor Shaun Bailey.
On first preference votes, Mr Khan secured a 40 percent share and Mr Bailey managed to win 35 percent, While in the run-off round the Labour Mayor won 55 percent of the vote, with his Conservative challenger on 45 percent.
