Ben White now set for Arsenal axe after early team news – pundit

Noel Whelan has insisted Takehiro Tomiyasu should replace Ben White at right-back for Arsenal after his return to fitness.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 23-year-old is a “natural option” for Mikel Arteta.
Tomiyasu has been available since mid-August but White has made six consecutive league starts in the right-back role for Arsenal.
The Japan international returned to the starting lineup for the 2-1 away win over FC Zurich in the Europa League (8 September).
The 2021 signing made the right-back berth his own last term – making 22 Gunners appearances across all competitions.
Whelan claimed Arteta must make a “strong decision” by benching White for Tomiyasu as Arsenal prepare to face Brentford on Sunday (18 September).
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “There’s no doubt that White is a very talented player who can play multiple positions.
“But I think you can’t beat a natural full-back – someone who has been brought up in that role.
“Tomiyasu hasn’t put a foot wrong since he came to Arsenal. He’s been one of the most solid and consistent performers out there.
“You’ve got to look at natural options if you’re wanting a balance right throughout your side. You can’t just put a player on the pitch because he is one of your best players.
“You’ve got to make strong decisions if you’re Arteta. If White sitting on the bench means Arsenal have a better balance, then he’ll have to do that.”
