Becky Lynch vs. Rhea Ripley Set for WWE WrestleMania 40 After Elimination Chamber Win
Rhea #Rhea
Becky Lynch outlasted Bianca Belair, Tiffany Stratton, Naomi, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez in an Elimination Chamber match at the same-titled premium live event on Saturday to earn a Women’s World Championship match against Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 40.
The finish came when Morgan pinned Belair with a roll-up before Lynch immediately came in and hit Morgan with the Manhandle Slam for the victory.
Lynch’s opponent for WrestleMania was set when Ripley pinned Nia Jax in the main event to retain the women’s world title.
With 2024 women’s Royal Rumble winner Bayley choosing to face former Damage CTRL stablemate Iyo Sky for the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania, it left the women’s world title without a clear challenger.
That set the stage for a six-woman Elimination Chamber match at Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia to determine the No. 1 contender, and a series of qualifying matches were held to select the field.
Lynch defeated Shayna Baszler, Morgan beat Zoey Stark, Belair defeated Michin, Stratton beat Zelina Vega, and Naomi got past Alba Fyre. Then, Rodriguez returned after missing the past few months due to injury and won a last-chance Battle Royal to earn the final spot.
Of the Superstars involved, Belair was the only one to have previously won an Elimination Chamber match, which conceivably gave The EST of WWE a leg up on the rest of the field.
However, she had to deal with several experienced veterans in the match, as well as some young and hungry competitors looking to take advantage of one of the biggest opportunities of their career.
Leading up to Elimination Chamber, two combatants stood out as the likeliest winners of the women’s Chamber match due to their interactions with Ripley: Lynch and Morgan.
On the go-home episode of Raw prior to Elimination Chamber, The Man acknowledged that she and Ripley had crossed paths several times and stared each other down in recent months, which seemed to be foreshadowing a big contest between them.
As for Morgan, it was Ripley who put her on the shelf for six months with a shoulder injury, and she made it clear she was out for revenge.
In the end, the odds-on favorite prevailed, and Lynch is now poised to challenge for the Women’s World Championship on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
The Man has not held singles gold on the main roster since April 2022, but at WrestleMania 40, she will have a chance to re-establish herself as the face of the women’s division and the woman to beat in WWE.
