Because of virus, San Jose State football game moved from New Mexico to San Jose

Jose #Jose

Because of the high prevalence of the coronavirus in New Mexico’s Bernalillo County, the Mountain West Conference announced Monday that Saturday’s football game between San Jose State and New Mexico will be switched from Albuquerque to San Jose’s CEFCU Stadium. Kickoff remains at 4 p.m. PDT.

The Lobos were scheduled to open their season last Saturday at Colorado State but the virus issues in New Mexico prompted the conference to cancel that game.

Head coach Brent Brennan’s Spartans did begin their season Saturday night with a 17-6 victory over Air Force at CEFCU. No fans were allowed in the stadium for that game, nor will any be allowed for the matchup against the Lobos.

If San Jose State does complete its eight-game schedule, the site switch for Saturday’s game means the Spartans will play five home games and three on the road.

Stanford, Cal update: The Pac-12 announced the times for its season-opening games Nov. 7. Stanford plays at Oregon with a 4:30 p.m. kickoff. ABC will carry that game. ESPN will televise the Washington-Cal matchup at Memorial Stadium, which starts at 7:30 p.m.
