Beautiful Thursday | First Alert Weather Day Friday for rain, storms & gusty winds
Good Thursday #GoodThursday
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Good Thursday morning. Fair skies are overhead with cool temperatures in the 30s and 40s to start off the day.
The steady south breeze overnight has prevented any widespread frost from developing, this should be the easiest morning commute of the week. Today will be absolutely wonderful across the Tennessee Valley with sunshine, light winds and mild high temperatures in the middle 50s to lower 60s. Cloud cover will quickly move in overnight keeping lows a bit warmer in the low to middle 40s.
Friday is a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY for another strong storm system moving across the area. A Wind advisory is in effect from 6AM Friday through midnight for sustained winds 15 to 30 miles per hour with occasional wind gusts exceeding 50 miles per hour. This storm system is very similar to what we saw earlier this week with concerns of power outages, heavy rainfall, stronger storms and possible flooding. Rain showers will move in from the west starting early Friday before becoming more widespread through mid to late morning. Rainfall rates will be very high at times and this can lead to possible flooding and difficult travel conditions. There is a slightly higher concern of seeing some strong to severe thunderstorms developing into Friday afternoon.
Rain showers and storms will move eastward by Friday night and colder air will rush in behind the center of low pressure, morning lows on Saturday will be in the middle to upper 20s. The weekend forecast looks rain-free but cold with highs on Saturday and Sunday in the lower to middle 40s.
We have yet another potent weather system scheduled to move through the Tennessee Valley to start off next week. Monday and Tuesday are also FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS for threats of snow, ice and bitter cold! Light snow showers mixing with ice will develop on Monday morning and will stay with us through most of the day, travel will likely become difficult by mid to late morning. Following the snow and ice, temperatures will plummet into the teens by Tuesday morning! Tuesday will bring dangerously cold wind chill values to North Alabama and Middle Tennessee. This is potentially pipe bursting cold and proper cold safety protocols will need to be followed. Temperatures will not get above freezing until Wednesday afternoon.
There is a lot of impactful weather over the next couple of days, please prepare now and keep checking back for any forecast changes regarding timing and impacts!
