By India Today Web Desk: Adelaide Strikers’ skipper Peter Siddle was in absolute disbelief after his team defeated Sydney Thunder by 124 runs in Match No.5 of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23. On Friday, December 16, the Strikers bowled the Thunder out for 15 in 5.5 overs at the Sydney Showground Stadium.
The Strikers started their campaign with a 51-run win over Sydney Sixers, after which they eased past the Thunder without having to break much sweat. The Strikers are currently topping the points table with four points and a net run rate of +4.375.
Siddle, who didn’t bowl a single ball in the entire match, was astonished at how quickly things happened against the Thunder. It also happened to be the first time that Rashid Khan didn’t bowl a single ball in a match, which produced results.
“It’s quite amazing that I’m actually off the pitch speaking to you. Because that was quick. I did not picture what just happened. Rashid’s played a lot of T20 cricket and that’s the first time he’s not bowled a ball in a T20 match,” Siddle was quoted as saying to Channel Seven.
After Matthew Short accounted for the wicket of Matthew Gilkes, the Thunder could never recover. None of their batters got into double digits. The Thunder also registered the lowest score in the BBL and the lowest-ever score in a T20 match.
“For the two of us not to bowl a ball, it’s still quite amazing. The boys bowled superbly. Exactly what I said earlier about coming in, being disciplined, bashing a length, they did that and they reaped the rewards,” he added.
The Strikers are next set to face the Thunder on Tuesday, December 20 at the Adelaide Oval. It remains to be seen how the Thunder pull themselves up after a nightmarish outing against the Strikers.
