Strictly: Claudia checks on Nigel after being disappointed at scores

Strictly Come Dancing viewers were worried about a ‘broken’ Nigel Harman after he appeared to leave set early, snubbing the ‘keeeep dancing’ tradition at the end of the programme.

On Saturday night, the seven remaining couples performed in the iconic Tower Ballroom. The ninth week of the 2023 series took place in the famous venue known for its dancing history, and it started with a bang. The professional dancers opened the show with a mega musical mash-up on the sprung floor.

After several eye-catching and energetic routines, Casualty actor Nigel and his dance partner Katya Jones closed the show. They performed the quickstep to It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing by Duke Ellington. Although Nigel received a 31, he seemed disappointed as the judges pointed out a few flaws.

After the show, fans noticed Nigel wasn’t in the mood to dance with his partner Katya or the other contestants. One user shared a video of him looking stiff as they said: “Are #Strictly judges proud of themselves Nigel’s been broken tonight, couldn’t even face the keep dancing once theme & cameras stopped.

“Taken away someone’s love of dance & confidence should not be what show is about.” Another concerned user posted: “It breaks my heart how vicious they are to Nigel when he is so good,” while one commented: “Viewers are seeing it now, I picked up straight away after they started picking at everything he did after week 1 they aren’t exactly subtle about it.”

After his performance, co-host Tess Daly told Nigel, who was dressed in a smart white tux: “That really felt like a fitting finale.” But Craig Revel Horwood had some criticisms. He said: “This sort of dancing is right up my street … however, the footwork went wrong quite a bit.” Motsi Mabuse praised the dance but also pointed out some flaws. Anton then complimented Nigel, saying he’s “just a brilliant dancer.”

Despite the scores – a seven from Craig and eight from Motsi, Shirley and Anton, Nigel seemed a bit disappointed. Strictly viewers at home noticed this and defended the actor.

@3lla_33 tweeted: “Justice for Nigel When he had to look up to the sky to stop himself from crying…. I almost wept #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.” @yoouucancallmeal added: “It’s almost like they want me to go up there and riot. You are my favourite human being Nigel, don’t deserve this treatment.”

@sammieandfloflo wrote: “I loved it but I’m so gutted for him you could see it got to him. Nigel you’ve been my number 1 from the start don’t let it stop you or get you down.” @ohjustvictoria posted: “It’s so sad that, after the amazing performance they gave, the judges made him feel so underappreciated and undermarked. His anger was so palpable… all my votes to Nigel, he needs a break from the negative comments. He’s brilliant!”
