BBC listeners have been left seething after hearing Kaye Adams state politicians are “not human beings” on her Scotland radio show. Commenting on an audio clip shared on Twitter, @dialogicspace said: “Disgraceful comments.”

@EvelynMalcolm9 reeled: “Perhaps we should consider her to be a presenter, not a human being! Her remarks are disgusting!”. @RobinTh44159854 commented: “@BBCScotlandNews @BBCScotland Time to get this sorted. Appalling so-called journalism. Scotland is watching you.”

@allyram63 tweeted: “How she can remain as an anchor in a political show with such obvious political leanings is beyond me. Can only be because her bosses lean the same way. Totally unacceptable language. Just outrageous!”

@ShaniqsDad added: “Kaye Adams: “They are not human beings, they are politicians”. Sarah Smith: Nicola Sturgeon “enjoyed” the pandemic. The new common bias from BBC is reckless and dangerous. Something has to be done. @Ofcom? @BBCScotland.”

@ShortbreadFairy said: “I strongly encourage everyone to complain. It needs to be the BBC in the first instance. Then, it can be taken further.” The mass backlash comes after the 61-year-old was discussing the ongoing UK Covid Inquiry.

Recently, it’s been revealed that Sturgeon’s WhatsApp messages had all been deleted during the course of the pandemic.

Jamie Dawson KC, counsel to the inquiry, stated none of Sturgeon’s messages had been retained due to them being “deleted in routine tidying up of inboxes or changes of phones, unable to retrieve messages”.

Discussing this revelation on Wednesday’s instalment of Adams’ radio show, the presenter spoke with columnist Kelly Given about the subject.

Defending the former First Minister, Given said: “Nicola Sturgeon has submitted evidence to this inquiry.

“She’s submitted her informal messaging, and I think we need to take that at face value, she’s done that. Why are we holding these people to account as if they’re not human beings?

“Nicola Sturgeon got a new phone or deleted her messages or whatever.”

However, the host was quick to interject as she made her feelings clear by commenting: “Because in this instance they’re not human beings, they’re politicians.”

However, Given hit back by arguing: “Politicians are human beings.”

A BBC spokesperson told the Express.co.uk: “This comment was made as part of a wider discussion on the COVID inquiry and in particular holding politicians to account for decisions made during this time.

“Taking the comment out of context in this way is not a fair reflection of the discussion throughout the morning.

“Of course, our presenters don’t believe politicians aren’t human, the point being made was that they also hold elected office, as was completely clear to anyone listening to the full programme, as opposed to a short clip of it.”

Mornings with Kaye Adams is available to listen to on BBC Sounds.
