BBC Breakfast fans threaten to ‘switch off’ as they issue complaint about Naga Munchetty

Naga #Naga

BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty sparked outrage among some viewers on Thursday as she grilled Chris Philp about a number of issues. The host questioned the MP on whether Brianna Ghey’s parents deserve an apology following a comment Rishi Sunak made he Parliament on Wednesday.

While some viewers praised Munchetty for her interview, others took to social media to slam the host, with one fuming “You can do better than this”. Another even threatened to “switch off” BBC Breakfast following the segment.

Taking to X, @Hodor_70 asked: “Why, Naga, do you continue to push when you are fully aware that the question won’t be answered the way you want it to be? Move on!#BBCbreakfast.”

@Auchepis claimed: “#BBCBreakfast Nasty Naga … mixing facts with her views.”

While @simondale11 argued: “Christ Naga you can do better than this!”

@clare_fenemer fumed: “#BBCBreakfast Naga is a nasty bully. About time she was sacked.”

@ACCATutor threatened: “Once more Naga and I switch off #BBCBreakfast.”

While @halcyon871 raged: “#BBCBreakfast another day another example of the excessive and excruciating interview techniques by Naga. Far too aggressive and combative for the time of airing. Does seem that Naga just does what she wants and the BBC are like.”

However, some fans stepped into defend Munchetty, with @camy93_ praising: “GET HIM NAGA.” (sic)

Munchetty said to the MP: “I’d like to talk about Rishi Sunak’s comments yesterday during the Prime Minister’s questions. I like to talk about the criticism he made of Sir Keir Starmer referring to U turns.

“And it was one of those criticisms he was talking about defining a woman claiming and it was done as a political jibe, I think it’s fair to say as part of the theatre of Prime Minister’s questions. Do you think that jibe was appropriate when the mother of Brianna Ghey, Esther was in the house?

“She wasn’t in the gallery, but she was in the chamber in the house, do you think it was appropriate at that time for the Prime Minister to have that on his list of jibed to hit back at Sir Keir Starmer?”

The MP replied: “Well, I think you’ve made the point that the Prime Minister wasn’t talking about trans issues. He certainly wasn’t talking about Brianna in that passage of PM questions.

“He was talking about the record U turns on a whole range of different issues he listed.”

As Philp tried to talk, Munchetty interrupted: “I agree. But he did not need to use defining a woman in that moment in time, did he?”

“Let me finish, let me finish,” Philp argued. “He was listing a whole number of different U-turns. We’ve seen another U-turn today where Labour are ditching their £28billion commitment.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
