BAY CITY, MI – The discovery of yet another threatening note forced officials at Bay City Public Schools to close Bay City Central High School for a second day.
On the morning of Monday, March 27, a notice was sent out to families by superintendent Stephen Bigelow stating that Bay City Central will be closed due to the recent discovery of another note that raised concerns about the safety and security of the school.
“We would like to emphasize that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority,” Bigelow said in the notice. “We have been working closely with local law enforcement and other relevant authorities to investigate the matter and ensure the necessary precautions are taken.”
Central was also closed on Friday, March 24 after a staff member discovered a threatening note on one of the entrance doors to the school, police said. The note that was found on Friday contained a threat to shoot up the school, according to the Bay City Department of Public Safety. The note was discovered by school personnel.
Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the recent note that was found on Monday at this time.
Monday’s closure also is impacting after-school events. All school activities, including extracurricular events and after-school programs, are canceled for today, according to the district.
“We understand that this may cause inconvenience for many families and we apologize for the short notice,” Bigelow said.
The two closures come after another threat in the district that turned out to be a hoax. Bay City Western went into secure mode on Thursday, March 23 due to a fake threat on social media.
