Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy announced Wednesday that Ben Mintz, known as Mintzy, has been fired.

On Monday’s episode of “Wake Up Mintzy,” the popular sports personality used a racial slur while reading the lyrics to a song. In an “emergency press conference,” Portnoy revealed that Mintzy was fired because of that incident.

“Bad news – this sucks. Today, we had to fire Ben Mintz,” Portnoy said. “… He turned white as a ghost. You can tell instantly he was like, ‘Oh my god. What did I do?’ It was like a Ron Burgundy moment. He read it. He knew he f—ed up.”

This decision came from Penn Entertainment, which acquired Barstool Sports in 2020.

It was evident from Portnoy’s rant that he didn’t want to fire Mintzy. He said, “It sucks. It makes no sense to me.”

Mintzy has already issued an apology for his actions.

“This morning, I made an unforgivable mistake slipping on air while reading a song lyric,” he said. “I meant no harm and have never felt worse about anything. I apologize for my actions. I am truly sorry and ashamed of myself.”
