Barnaby Joyce warns controversial Katie Hopkins to ‘get out of the country’

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has blasted British right wing personality Katie Hopkins for mocking Australia’s hotel quarantine system.

The controversial figure is rumoured to have flown into Australia to appear on reality show Big Brother.

The 46-year-old took to Instagram Live on Saturday to boast she had been deliberately trying to defy hotel quarantine rules by answering her door naked when workers delivered her food.

More than 10,000 people have since signed a petition to send the celebrity back home.

Deputy Prime Minister Joyce had a different tactic, however.

He gave Ms Hopkins a towering serve on breakfast TV on Sunday.

Mr Joyce referenced his well-publicised feud with Hollywood megastar Johnny Depp, whose then wife Amber Heard illegally brought her two dogs, Pistol and Boo, into Australia on a private jet in 2015.

During the saga, Depp described Mr Joyce as “some kind of sweaty, big-gutted man from Australia”.

Mr Joyce said he would happily send Ms Hopkins packing if she wanted to break Covid-19 rules.

“I‘m the one who wanted to send home Johnny Depp’s dogs home so I have no problem sending home someone (Ms Hopkins) who wants to flout our laws,” he told ABC Insiders host David Speers.

“If you want to do that, pack your bongo and get out of country!”

Ms Hopkins has reportedly described Covid-19 lockdowns as “the greatest hoax in human history”.

She also stated that completing mandatory quarantine was her way of “calling out” lockdown – admitting she had deliberately been flouting rules issued to her by Australian Federal Police when escorted to the hotel.

“I’ve been told when they bring three meals a day to the door … I have to wait 30 seconds before opening the door,” she said.

“And then I can open the door but only with a face mask.

Instead, she has said she has been “lying in wait” in the bathroom naked, sprinting to the door to “frighten the s**t out of them [the workers] and do it naked with no face mask”.

Celebrity Big Brother will be filmed at Sydney Olympic Park, close to NSW’s largest vaccination hub.

It will be hosted by Sonia Kruger and is expected to air later this year.
