Time for round two, folks. Back in early March, the teams at Goodlife and Bamford London partnered up to release what they hoped would be a perfect knock-around summer watch for jaunts to the beach, days at the pool, and every other low-key, warm-weather adventure you could imagine. Then the reality of the pandemic set in. Summer, of course, wasn’t quite what they—or anyone—expected when the design was finalized. And things are obviously still a tad bit strange right now.

But Goodlife’s Chris Roznar and George Bamford managed to keep up the optimism, even as lockdowns descended on New York and London (their respective home bases) and around the world. And as it happens, it was that moment that pushed them back into a creative space, trading ideas about what the second iteration of their partnership might look like. “I’ve always loved the idea of mixing black and brown, and I’m also a fan of textured dials on watches,” explains Molnar. “In discussing those initial ideas with George and his team while on COVID lockdown last spring, the concept of developing a unique dial came about as I explained we were also launching a denim snap shirt for holiday.”

The result of those discussions is now available in the form of two Bamford Automatic GMTs, one in the core black-and-brown colorway that sparked the whole conversation, and another in a seasonal washed-down indigo. Both feature a GMT function thanks to an internal rotating bezel, a Sellita SW330-1 movement and 42-hour power reserve to keep things ticking along when you’re not wearing them, along with a nicely proportioned 40mm cushion case that’ll ensure time the watch actually spends off your wrist is minimal. Both also feature uniquely textured dials that are sure to demand a second look from even the most casual denim fans.

“We sent Bamford pieces of the denim we were using on the shirts—a black rinsed denim and a washed indigo—and they essentially reproduced the exact denim weave onto the dial of the watches,” Molnar says. You’ll also find that denim on the straps for both watches, complemented by an additional strap made from cordura nylon (a Bamford signature).

“Goodlife did set us a challenge, but it has been amazing to really encapsulate their denim on the dial of the watch,” says George Bamford. “This solidifies a great relationship and friendship between Goodlife and Bamford London, and I am so happy to work together.” Does that mean we can expect more collaborative watches in the future? No official word on that yet. But a friendship like this would be a terrible thing to waste.
