Bama (Norway) reopens vegetable processing plant after corona infections

In Lierstranda, Norway, Bama has reopened its vegetable processing plant. The plant had been closed since Saturday night September 19 after the corona infection among the employees. Everybody who had been in the plant went into quarantine and was tested. In total, 15 employees tested positively..

Alte Beyer, the administrative director of Bama, said: “Employees who return to work must not have any complaints, must have tested negatively and must have finished their ten day quarantine. Since March, we had imposed extra measures, but these will be extra strict from now on. It concerns stricter access control, more disinfecting and more digital communication. All employees are trained in small groups and are given directions in their native language.

Empty shelvesThe vegetable processing company produces cut and washed salads, lettuce mixes and vegetables. Because the plant had been closed, shortages arose in the supermarkets.

Pia Gulbrandsen, commercial director of Bama said: “Unfortunately, supermarkets have a shortage of cut and washed lettuce and vegetable mixes. We have supplied alternative products instead, such as more iceberg lettuce and unwashed rocket salad. In any case, there are plenty of alternatives for the customer.” 

This is confirmed by Kine Søyland of Norgesgruppen. “We have plenty of alternatives and therefore see no reason for importing. When the factory opens again, everything will be restocked in no time.”
