BAKE Off fans were tonight left furious when show favourite Hermine was sent home and will miss out on the grand final.

Viewers were left fuming during this evening’s semi-final as the popular contestant was voted off the series by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Hermine had been favourite to win the show after winning Star Baker two times in a row.

The bubbly baker had also won a legion of fans, who were angry to see her leave so near to the end of the competition.

This one tweeted: ‘THIS IS NOT fair! Hermine deserved to win!”

While this one said: “Noooooo Hermine….robbed!”

This fan was cross to see her go: “Hermine has been robbed! She deserved to win!”

But in her own words, “Patisserie Week, was just not my week”, and although she succeeded at the first two challenges, her showstopper failed to rise to the occasion.

Tonight’s semi-final tested the bakers’ skills in the art of patisserie baking, with David winning Star Baker and Peter getting a Hollywood handshake.

The four remaining bakers were tasked with making a booze-soaked signature creation followed by pastry horns for the technical challenge.

Finally, in the showstopper, the bakers demonstrated finesse and precision on both a small and large scale by creating a cube made entirely from delicate, smaller cube shaped cakes.

Although she made it to the semi-finals, the judges were not impressed with her showstopper and it was revealed Hermine would be leaving the show, missing out on next week’s final.

Speaking after host Noel Fielding revealed she was the next baker to go, Hermine said: “It should have been my finest hour on patisserie week as that is my forte, but it was not to be, it was heart breaking to leave at the semi-final.

“For me it wasn’t about winning or getting Star Baker, I was more thrilled about getting positive comments from the judges, these are the things that made my experience in the tent magical.

“I bake from the heart and I want people to enjoy my food rather than taking the accolades.

“But it’s been a pleasure, I believe everything has a reason and it was the right time for me to go.”

Later she added: “Winning Star Baker in two successive weeks was amazing, and I will treasure that, and it means a lot to me to come this far in the series.

“In Episode 8, Prue said I was an amazing baker and Paul said my Japanese Poppy Cake could have come straight out of a Parisian bakery, I will take both of those comments!”

Next week’s final sees David, Laura and Peter all go head to head to see who will be crowned Bake Off winner 2020.
