But now there is another contender: Bad Bunny. Yesterday, Bad Bunny (née Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) took a bathroom mirror selfie in which he posed in an abridged sweatshirt and a pair of low-slung jeans, leaving his abdomen as the focus of this pared-back look. Opting for easy accessories, he wore a gold necklace and a pinky ring. In the background, there was an unlidded toilet. (Bad Bunny, always down to earth!)
While Bad Bunny’s crop top has sent his fans into a tailspin, crop tops on men are not a new thing. Adam Sandler played peekaboo with his belly button in the 1994 film Airheads, while Will Smith during his Fresh Prince of Bel-Air days wore a Philadelphia 76ers T-shirt that appeared to be sheared off.
A crop top feels right in step with Bad Bunny’s forward-thinking style. In the past, he’s worn a third-eye on his forehead while, in a more serious mood, he wore a skirt to push awareness for a transgender woman who had been murdered in Puerto Rico. This past year on the Grammys red carpet, he came dressed in Burberry but accessorized the polished get-up with a fresh sunflower. Bad Bunny is confident and comfortable with himself, which makes his looks feel refreshing and natural. Even better, it’s evident he dresses from the heart and loves fashion. Even when it comes with a fantastic slice of midriff.
