Auburn commit Roterius Torrence named JUCO Defensive Player of the Year

It’s been a great year for three-star JUCO cornerback Roterius Torrence.
After helping Hutchinson Community College win its first national championship and receiving NJCAA first team All-American honors Torrence committed to Auburn on June 6th.
This week he was named the JUCO Defensive Player of the Year.
Listed at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, Torrence recorded 23 tackles, five pass breakups, and one interception through eight games this spring. What’s even more impressive is that the NJCAA has revealed that Torrence only allowed one reception in coverage in those eight games.
Torrence is originally from Bessemer, Alabama and stated that he grew up an Alabama fan. Before his official commitment to Auburn Torrence had been committed to Tennessee for a total of eight days. For him, decommitting to play for Auburn was a no-brainer:
“Even though growing up an Alabama fan, I still wanted to play for one of those teams (Auburn or Alabama). Coming from Alabama, this is a big blessing.”
Upon arriving to Auburn Torrence will have three years of eligibility remaining, and after losing former JUCO cornerbacks in Marco Domio (UCF) and Kamal Hadden (Tennessee) it looks like he is poised to make an immediate impact.
