Atletico star wants ‘return to England’ with Man Utd ‘interested’

Trippier #Trippier

Man Utd and Everton are interested in pursuing a deal for Kieran Trippier as the former Tottenham man eyes a return to England, according to reports.

Trippier has largely impressed during his two seasons in La Liga after leaving Spurs for Spanish side Atletico Madrid in 2019.

The right-back has contributed six assists in 27 appearances for Atletico this campaign with the Colchoneros knowing a win in their final match of the season against Valladolid would guarantee them the La Liga title.

His performances for Atletico have seen Trippier earn call-up to the most recent England squad over the likes of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

And The Athletic now claims that Trippier wants ‘to return to England in the summer’ despite ‘his success under Diego Simeone and the club’s desire for Trippier to sign a new contract’.

Trippier will soon enter the final 12 months of his deal at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and this summer ‘could be Atletico’s last chance to secure a transfer fee for him’.

Man Utd are ‘looking for competition’ for Wan-Bissaka and the report The Athletic adds that the Premier League club ‘considered Trippier in January and are believed to remain interested’.

Trippier is also thought to be ‘on the radar’ at Everton, while French side Paris Saint-Germain – who are managed by former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino – are said to ‘admire’ the 30-year-old.

Meanwhile, Luis Suarez’s 88th-minute winner against Osasuna on Sunday has left Atletico Madrid on the brink of clinching the LaLiga title for only the second time since 1996.

Simeone’s side were staring at a shock defeat after Ante Budimir headed the visitors in front with just 14 minutes remaining.

But substitute Renan Lodi netted for Atletico in the 82nd minute before Suarez’s late decider.

Atletico, who were champions in 2014 under Simeone, head into the concluding round of fixtures next Sunday with a two-point advantage over Real Madrid.

Following the victory, Trippier tweeted: “What a come back by the team. We stuck together and worked hard as a team. One more game one big final! Vamos!!”
