Mother’s Day used to be a sad time for Freddie Freeman.

The Atlanta Braves star, whose mother died when he was a child, said during an interview with ESPN’s Buster Olney during “Sunday Night Baseball” that the holiday is now a happy time as he’s built his own family.

“I know my mom would be super proud of her daughter-in-law Chelsea and our family and her grandkids. It’s definitely a happy time now, Mother’s Day, because now we get to love on my stepmom, my wife and all the mothers in the Freeman family. It’s a special time for us.”

“What Mother’s Day plans do you have for Chelsea?” Olney asked.

“Hopefully a home run. We’ll go for that. Maybe she’ll like that,” Freeman replied.

Well, the reigning NL MVP delivered, and his timing was impeccable – his third-inning blast off the Philadelphia Phillies’ Aaron Nola occurred while the interview was being aired.

That blast, Freeman’s ninth of the season, gave the Braves a 5-1 lead in a game they’d win 6-1.
