Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President Bukola Saraki have expressed sadness over the death of renowned diplomat, Amb. Kayode Laro.

Until his death, Laro was Nigeria’s Ambassador to France with concurrent accreditation to Monaco.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the diplomat died on Friday, April 11 in Paris, France, after a protracted illness.

Reacting, Atiku said, “The death of Ambassador Kayode Laro is a blow to Nigeria’s diplomatic corps as he was one of the most trained and experienced hands we have in the Nigerian Foreign Service.

“The vacuum left by his death as Ambassador to France is a hard one to fill, especially at this time, as we insist that diplomacy remains the primary tool in the arsenal of Nigeria towards finding peace within our borders and with our neighbours. May his soul rest in peace.”

Saraki said, “Ambassador Kayode Laro was an exemplary diplomat, who passionately represented Nigeria and dedicated himself to the growth of our community and nation.

“His passing is a great loss to the Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State and Nigeria.

“My deepest condolences to his family, the Ilorin Emirate and the people and government of Nigeria.

“I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) overlooks his shortcomings, admits him into Aljanah Firdaus, and comforts his family and loved ones during this moment of grief.”
