Canada captain Atiba Hutchinson provided one of the more memorable sights of the World Cup after being spotted with a tampon up his nose.

Hutchinson was leading his team during their 4-1 defeat to Croatia on Sunday when he was forced off the pitch with a bloody nose.

Looking to find a way to get his nosebleed under control, Hutchinson consulted his national team’s physio before re-emerging onto the pitch.

He then re-entered the pitch with an innovative new look as the nosebleed was brought under control by the tampon.

Hutchinson was making his 100th appearance for the Maple Leafs, but sadly for him, he couldn’t mark it with a win.

While Alphonso Davies headed home after just 67 seconds for their first ever goal in the World Cup finals, Croatia showed their experience and quality as Marko Livaja and an Andrej Kramaric brace saw them go ahead, before Lovro Mejer wrapped up the win.

As a result, Canada are knocked out of the competition with a game to go, while Croatia will need to avoid defeat against Belgium in their final group match in order to progress to the knockout rounds.
