Just a few hours removed from a historic 18-inning win over the Seattle Mariners that clinched a record sixth straight trip to the American League Championship Series, the Houston Astros received some more good news.

The Astros have secured home-field advantage through the World Series. Of course, they will have to beat the winner of the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees in the ALCS first in order to get there.

This development came about as a result of the San Diego Padres upsetting the Los Angeles Dodgers three games to one in the National League Division Series. The Dodgers seemed on pace to even the series in Game 4 on Saturday in San Diego, but the Padres erased a three-run deficit with a five-run seventh inning, and they held on to win 5-3.

Los Angeles won a franchise record and MLB-best 111 games this year, and would have held home-field advantage over Houston if the teams met in a rematch of the 2017 World Series, which the Astros won in seven games. Instead, the Dodgers will be watching the rest of the postseason from afar, while San Diego gears up for its first NLCS appearance since 1998.

With a 106-56 record in the regular season, the Astros have the best winning percentage of any team left in the playoffs. They posted winning records against both of their potential ALCS opponents in 2022, going 5-2 against the Yankees and 4-3 against the Guardians.

Cleveland, which leads New York two games to one, will attempt to close out its division series at home on Sunday.
