Astros relief pitcher Ryne Stanek and wife Jessica are expecting their second child in October, and they revealed it will be a boy with a pizza from Montrose’s Love Buzz Pizza Pub on Thursday. The Staneks posted photos to social media from the restaurant with a cheese pizza covered in black olives spelling out “BOY.”
The newest addition to the family will be the couple’s second child arriving around the postseason. The Staneks had their first child — daughter Joelle Layne, who they call Jo — in September 2021 right before Stanek and the Astros made a playoff run to the World Series.
From the looks of the photos, Jo was a big fan of the gender reveal idea. When someone complimented the choice of food, Jessica replied on Twitter, “Jo agrees, that’s why we did pizza!”
Shortly after the gender reveal, Jessica also posted a 90-second video on Instagram from the day she told Ryne she was pregnant again, which included a sweet embrace and a celebrating Jo.
The 31-year-old Stanek is in his third season with the Astros after agreeing to a one-year, $3.6 million contract in January. Stanek, who threw three hitless innings in last year’s postseason run to a title, can become a free agent after this season.
Jessica competed on Survivor: David vs. Goliath in 2018.
