Despite conceding to an Ollie Watkins deflected effort, Arteta won’t be too angry at how the first half has played out for his team because they were on the front foot for a lot of it.

However, apart from a Xhaka free-kick he will be disappointed at how little they have tested Aston Villa goalkeeper Martinez.

On the other hand, Dean Smith will be proud of his boys for going in at half-time 1-0 up but he’ll know that the game is far from over.
