As Diana Ross headlines Queen’s jubilee concert, look back at her iconic stage style

American soul singer and 1970s icon, Diana Ross is set to headline the star-studded concert to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Party at the Palace this weekend.

The former Supremes singer will join a whole host of famous faces coming together for the BBC’s Platinum Party At The Palace concert celebrating the Queen’s 70-year reign.

Queen (with singer Adam Lambert), Duran Duran and Sir Rod Stewart are just some of the famous names performing at the star-studded event, broadcast on BBC One on Saturday.

The icon will close the evening of music which the BBC says “will pivot around global themes that have been born, or evolved, during the breadth of Her Majesty’s reign.”

In a statement, the singer said she was “absolutely delighted to receive an invitation to perform on such a momentous and historic occasion”.

A torrential downpour, with winds gusting to 55 miles per hour, didn’t stop Diana Ross from shining in an embellished jumpsuit for her outdoor concert in Central Park in 1983. (Getty Images)

“I have had the honour of meeting the Queen many times throughout my life,” she added, “including when I was with my family. Her Majesty has and continues to be such an incredible inspiration to so many across the world.”

Ross began her decade-spanning career in the late 1950s as one third of The Supremes, but her career – and style – trajectory only skyrocketed from there.

Ross’ first performances were awash with brilliant stage outfits by Bob Mackie, but she quickly became known for her glamorous 70s stage style.

From sparkling bodysuits, to glittery dresses to sequinned jumpsuits, Ross’ performance style was nothing short of show-stopping.

As she closes out the the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Party at the Palace, take a look back at some of her best on-stage looks.
